None of mine girl friends can become my girlfriend?

I have a variety friends that are girls. But I just can't seem to starting dating one of them. Once I confessed my crush to one of them and they were so surprised. It's frustrating. Why does this happen and how to prevent it? And any tips on getting a GIRLFRIEND?
